Control Temper (Anger) to reduce STRESS

Hi All,

In the previous articles we have discussed what is stress and how can we deal with it.In this article we shall discuss as to "how can a bad temper or anger lead to stress".We are all a part of the society which is characterized by high pace, high stress, immense competition, targets etc.Its very natural that if things do not go on the positive track we tend to lose temper.

The reasons for losing temper may be innumerable. It could be personal, social, professional etc.E.g.,unpleasant relationship with dear one's,eve teasing,no appreciation for good work at workplace etc. However,we should understand that we should be efficient enough to handle such situations without losing our temper because it will not only lead us to stress but will also make the issues more vulnerable.

Instead of losing our temper and being stressed out we should look within ourselves and find out what is it that is leading to such unpleasant situations. If we realize that the fault is with us,we should be honest enough to accept it and should find ways to resolve the issues.

In the workplace, losing temper does not only lead to stress but it also affects our productivity, our chances of promotion, our relationship with our colleagues and seniors. However there are few ways by which we can control our anger:

1)Be Silent for a while when you are angry.Anything spoken when you are angry would not be a pleasant one.So avoid speaking to anyone when you are angry.

2)If silence does not help you and you simply want to blow up,then get into an empty room and simply express your anger and shout out.

3)Laughter plays an important role in lowering the temper and reducing stress. If you are at home and are angry due to personal reasons, then simply switch on the television and watch a cartoon or anything comic. It will not only lower down your temper but will also make you feel good.

4)Listening to music also helps to lower the temper and hence helps to reduce stress.Listen to any kind of music of your choice for 30 mins after a long and stressful working day and you will find your stress vanish.

5)Give importance to your mind and body. You will have to take care of your health,no one will be there to check and control your stress, you will have to do it yourself.Engage yourself in activities that makes you happy.Take out atleast 30 mins in a day to entertain yourself.

6)Exercise for atleast 30 mins in a day to reduce temper and stress.Walking is the best exercise and can do wonders in relieving stress.

7)Be patient,if things are not going at your pace,do not lose your temper.E.g.,If you go to a multiplex and you have to wait for a long time in a queue to get the movie tickets,do not start screaming at those standing in front.Remember that you are not the only one standing in the queue. So be patient.

The above are few ways by which we can control our temper and help ourselves to reduce stress.Remember that it is your body and stress does not do any good to our health.Stress for a long term leads to depression, burnout etc, which is extremely harmful for us.Though the competition today is immense and we want to achieve everything possible,we should not forget that everything has its own time to happen. We should strive hard and give our best in whatever we do and should leave the results on time.If our efforts are sincere, the rewards will follow.

We should never forget that our health is very precious, hence,we should take care of it.If we allow stress to control us,it will negatively affect us both physically and mentally. Moreover,we are not the only one's to suffer, our ill health will have negative impact on our near and dear one's also. Therefore, remember the saying that "Health is Wealth" and follow the above measures to live a healthy life.

Regards,
Kavita
