Tips for a Successful Business Presentation

Hi All,

A Business is all about marketing and selling a product, concept, service or topic. The most important thing in a Business Presentation is to have a clear concept about the material. If you do not have the complete knowledge about the product/concept,it is not possible to create an impact on the audience. The following are the tips for a successful business presentation :

  1. Instead of elaborating the topic, divide the material into 3 or 4 key phrases and emphasize on them throughout consistently.Use simple language and use few words on each slide.Avoid more than 3 bullet points on each slide.
  2. Keep the slides simple and easy to follow.Put the title on the top of the slide.Keep all important points on the top of the slide because for those who are seated on the back rows may not be able to see points written at the bottom.
  3. Avoid too much of punctuations and capital letters.Generally we write a word in capital if we are emphasizing something or shouting at someone. So avoid it.
  4. Use a professional and a simple font that is easy to understand such as Arial, Times New Roman or Verdana.Keep the font large enough so that those seated at the back rows can read it.
  5. Keep the background of the slide plain and use light colors like beige. Dark text on a light background is best, but avoid white backgrounds.
  6. Limit the number of slides because otherwise the presentation will become too long. One slide per minute would be alright.
  7. Use charts, graphs and photos along with texts. This will add variety and will keep the audience interested.Avoid slides with only texts.
  8. Keep the focus on the object of the presentation.Though graphs, photos and charts are good to keep the audience interested,an excessive use of it can distract the audience.
  9. Make sure your presentation can be used on any computer to avoid any negative consequences.

The above are few tips for a successful business presentation. So keep all these tips in mind while preparing a business presentation.

Attitude

Hi Everyone,

A Positive Attitude is something that is very essential in order to succeed in life. Our thoughts and emotions affect all the aspects of our life.Attitude is nothing but our perception towards different aspects of life.Developing a Positive Attitude helps us to cope up with the daily affairs of our life.

Generally we tend to have someone in our life, whom we consider as our strength. At tough times,we tend to rely upon them for support. But,intentionally or unintentionally they are the ones who leave our support when it is most needed.Under such circumstances we tend to feel negative about different aspects of our life.

We should remember that no one is born to be dependent upon others. The challenge of life is to maintain a positive attitude inspite of all the odds.Infact there is no scarcity for people to pull your confidence down. There are many who have the tendency to put others down by demotivating them.Maintaining a Positive Attitude under such circumstances will not only help you to succeed in life and achieve your goals but,it will also annoy the ones who have been unsuccessful in demotivating you.

The main point to remember is to build yourself as a strong person from within & this is possible only through developing a Positive Attitude.

As "Herm Albright " has rightly said :

"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort."

Live your Life to the Fullest in Your Own Terms

Hi Everyone ,

We get only one Life with opportunities to live it to the fullest. But it is the common human mindset to be dissatisfied/unhappy with one's own life.We have all heard about the saying "The grass is greener on the other side".We tend to have the feeling that others are living a better life than us and that others are happier than us.It seems as if all the life's problems are concentrated to us.

We therefore tend to spend our entire life hoping and yearning to live someone else's life. Doing so,slowly and subconciously,we tend to develop feelings of jealousy and envy towards the other person's achievements. For instance we may think " I wish I could live a King size life like Mr.X ".The question that arises here is "Why waste time thinking about someone else's life? Why don't we try to make necessary changes in our own life and live every moment to the fullest? " We certainly can aspire to live a better life and we can have an idol to look up to.But,always thinking about other's life is a waste of time.

All these thoughts keep us away from enjoying own our life.Isn't that a very silly thing to do? Doing so we actually become blindfold towards our own happiness. We fail to appreciate our own achievements in life.So the best thing to do is to concentrate into one's own life.Try finding out your own skills, strengths and weaknesses and build a happy and healthy life for yourself. A life that is not wasted upon thinking about someone else's life, success and achievements.

Most of us seem to be very concerned about what others think about us and our life. There may be some whose heart desires to work for a social cause, but they might not take it up thinking that they would not earn enough money there and since people who are rich in terms of money are given more respect in the society, they might just give up this desire of working for a social cause. Now here,we are living our life not in our own terms and wishes. We are living our life by ignoring our own wishes and by giving more priority to others opinion.

As rightly quoted by "Steve Jobs" (Stanford University) :

'Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma--which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.'

Life : A Speech by Bryan Dyson

If you need any words of encouragement. Here’s a speech I recently came across that resonates with me on what “balance” really means in life. Hope it does for your as well…

Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. You name them - work, family, health, friends and spirit and you’re keeping all of these in the air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls - family, health, friends and spirit - are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered. They will never be the same.

You must understand that and strive for balance in your life.

How?

Don’t undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different that each of us is special.

Don’t set your goals by what other people deem important. Only you know what is best for you.

Don’t take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as they would your life, for without them, life is meaningless.

Don’t let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or for the future.

By living your life one day at a time, you live ALL the days of your life.

Don’t give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.

Don’t be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect. It is this fragile thread that binds us to each together.

Don’t be afraid to encounter risks. It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.

Don’t shut love out of your life by saying it’s impossible to find time. The quickest way to receive love is to give; the fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly; and the best way to keep love is to give it wings.

Don’t run through life so fast that you forget not only where you’ve been, but also where you are going.

Don’t forget, a person’s greatest emotional need is to feel appreciated.

Don’t be afraid to learn. Knowledge is weightless, a treasure you can always carry easily.

Don’t use time or words carelessly. Neither can be retrieved.

Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.

Failure is a Window to Success

Hi,

Most of us get upset and depressed by failures in life. We somehow cannot accept the fact that things are not happening the way we want it to happen. We are more concious about what and how would others react to our failures. All these negative thoughts actually blocks our vision and we fail to look at the opportunity that lies behind every failure.

Success does not come easy and neither it is unachievable. What is required is focus and determination. Look for opportunities in every failure. It's upon us as to how we convert a failure into an opportunity and an opportunity into a success.

As rightly said by "Mary Kay Ash", Founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics :

"When you reach an obstacle, turn it into an opportunity. You have the choice. You can overcome and be a winner, or you can allow it to overcome you and be a loser. The choice is yours and yours alone. Refuse to throw in the towel. Go that extra mile that failures refuse to travel. It is far better to be exhausted from success than to be rested from failure."

As rightly said by "Laozi" :

" Failure is the foundation of success; success is the lurking place of failure".

Learning is Ageless

Hi,

Most of us feel that there is an age limit to learn new things, new experiences etc. and once we cross a certain age we need to get stagnated. But doing so,we are actually limiting our horizon. One must remember that learning cannot be limited by age (physical and mental). The more we learn, the more we grow.If we stop learning or prevent ourselves from learning new things, ideas, experiences,t
hen we are preventing our own growth.

This is the reason why there is a difference in the level of knowledge from one person to another. Those who are anxious and passionate about learning new things generally shine amidst the crowd. So,if one wishes to be extraordinary and unique,s/he should keep the passion alive for learning, irrespective of their age.

“People grow old only by deserting their ideals, Macarthur had written. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up interest wrinkles the soul. You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear; as young as your hope as old as your despair. In the central place of every heart there is a recording chamber. So long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer and courage, so long are you young. When your heart is covered with the snows of pessimism and the ice of cynicism, then, and then only, are you grown old. And then, indeed as the ballad says, you just fade away.”

How to choose your First Job

Hi All,

Every year we have fresh graduates passing out and searching for their very first job.It is ofcourse the most thrilling phase of their lives. But,before one jumps into a conclusion and accepts a job offer, ther are certain things that needs to be thought of.Do not accept just any job offer thinking that you might not get another job offer. The following are certain points that needs to be thought of before you accept a job offer:

- Benefits from the job:
This is one criteria that most of them fail to consider. Before you take up a job offer, look for the benefits that the company would provide to you such as medical coverage, bonus, reimbursements etc.Remember that these are as important as your pay package and other perks.

- Location :
Do consider the location where you would be posted.Make sure that the salary that you are being offered suffices the cost of living of the location where you are going to be posted.

- Distance :
Check out the distance between your home and your office.See to it that your office is not too far from your home, else you will end up travelling to and fro for most of your time.It is not only time consuming but it would also become very stressful in the long run.

- Career Growth:
Look into the growth opportunities that the company would provide you in the long run.No one would want to remain in the same position for years, everyone looks for a growth in their career. So,feel free to ask your interviewer the growth opportunities that you can look forward to in the organization.

- Work Environment:
This is as important as any other criteria to choose a job.Work environment starts from the dress code, the other employees, the boss etc.It would not be possible to access the work environment in the first sight, but you may consult the other employees who are already working there,so that you get an idea about the work environment and their work culture.

- Job Security:
Make sure you choose to join a company where your job is secure. In this period of recession it is very essential that you accept a job with the confidence that it is a secured job.

- Maximum utilization of your skills:
Make sure that your job gives you an opportunity to utilize your education and your skills to the fullest, only then you can expect growth in your career.Do not let your skills go in vain.

- Clear Vision:
Have a clear vision of where you want to be 5 years from now.Only if you have a strong vision, you will be able to achieve it.Do not leave your career plans upon time, that time will decide your career. It does not happen that way.You have to be clear about your career goals so that you can choose your career path accordingly.

Therefore, all the fresh graduates who are excited about their very first job,do consider the above points before you accept your first job offer so that you have a stable career.
