Hi All,
In this article we shall discuss about how to negotiate with your salary to get a satisfactory pay package.
Negotiation of salary generally happens once you know that you have been selected by the organization for the position that you have applied for.Once you know that you are selected you have to negotiate with your salary and even your employer would want you to do so.When you are selected for a job,you know that the interviewer is convinced with you and your skill sets and track record. So,you are on the stronger end as you know that the interviewer is keen to appoint you.
But,before negotiating with your salary, you should make yourself clear about your job profile and your job responsibilities. You should also research about the monetary value of that job in the market. You should be aware about the range of the salary that the company offers to a selected candidate.
Divide your salary expectation into 3 parts - Minimum,Mid-point and the Maximum.Never reveal the minimum expectation of salary that you have.First allow the interviewer to reveal the package that he can offer you.Do not place your expectations first else you may end up "overpricing" youself for that post.Once you know the package that the interviewer can offer you,you may start negotiating.Always start negotiating with your maximum expectation (which should be set realistically after doing a complete market research ) and end up the negotiation with the mid-point i.e., a package that will justify your skill sets, your track record and will also fulfill your personal needs.
Do not hesitate to price yourself appropriately.Afterall, getting a job is like selling youself,so set the right price for youself.Be confident while negotiating,if you hesitate and accept the pay package set by the interviewer, you may not be happy with the returns in the long run.
Therefore,be realistic and confident and negotiate for the right price for your skill-sets.
Regards,
Kavita
