We have all come across the term "Inferiority Complex".In this article we shall discuss what is inferiority complex and how can we know that we are suffering from inferiority complex."Inferiority Complex" is not a disease.It is an extremely low self-esteem in an individual.Those who suffer from low self-esteem often suffer from depression,irritability and agression.They may also be more likely to have feelings of resentment, alienation, and unhappiness.
Lets find out how can we know whether we or anyone we know is suffering from Inferiority Complex:
1)Sensitive to Criticism: Though people who suffer from inferiority complex know their shortcomings very well,they would never like others to point it.They tend to point out any kind of criticism as a persona attack.
2)Hypercritical Attitude: People who do not feel god about themselves,do not feel good about others also.They try to look for flaws in others to prove that they are not that bad afterall.These people cannot feel intelligent, attractive, competent, etc., unless they are the most intelligent, attractive and competent person around.
3)Tendency Toward Blaming: Some people blame their weaknesses onto others in order to lessen the pain of feeling inferior. From here, it is only a short step to blaming others for one’s failures.
4)Feelings Of Persecution: Blaming others can go to the extent of believing that others are actively trying to ruin him/her.For example,if a person is fired from his job,he will want to believe that his boss was not fond of him and will avoid taking the personal responsibility for his failure.
5)Negative Feelings About Competition: People who feel inferior like to win games but will avoid any kind of competition for the fear of losing.
6)Tendency towards hiding into their own shell: Because people with an inferiority complex believe that they are not as interesting or intelligent as others, they believe that other people will feel the same way about them.So they tend to avoid social situations and when they are forced to be with others,they will avoid speaking up because they believe doing so will only provide an embarrassing demonstration of their dullness and stupidity.
The above are certain symptoms of inferiority complex.But,this inferiority is not a disease.If at any point of time you feel inferior,try to find out the reason for your inferiority.What is it that is making your self-esteem low?Remember that people perceive you,the way you perceive and present yourself.You cannot expect others to look up to you unless you look up to yourself.There are few steps to avoid the feeling of inferiority:
1)Believe in yourself.
2)Accept your shortcomings and work on them.
3)Do not look at your past failures.Past is past,it will not come back.So,build a new future.
4)Keep yourself occupied with things that you like to do.Take up a hobby and try to master on it.
5)Be confident about yourself.
6)Move on in life.Appreciate what you have got in life instead of regretting for what you have not got.
7)Avoid being jealous of successful people,instead learn from them and improve on your shortcomings.
8)Face every challenge with a good spirit.Do not run away from challenges.
So,if you feel inferior about yourself,simply follow the above tips.It is not good to always think about your failures,you should also congradulate yourself for your achievements.So,be happy and confident and live a healthy life.
